Coconut is a super food with many health benefits. The medium chain fatty acids in coconut oil was found to significantly reduce appetite, which may lead to reduced body weight over the long term.
Lauric acid makes up about 50% of the fatty acids in coconut oil. When lauric acid is digested, it also forms a substance called monolaurin. The combination was found to kill harmful pathogens like bacteria, viruses and fungi.
Various preliminary studies suggest that medium-chain triglycerides can increase ketone levels in the blood supplying energy for the brain cells of Alzheimer’s patients and reducing and in some cases even reversing symptoms. Extensive research is being done on this subject.
